BIOGRAPHY

Born in Hungary in 1979, Gabriel has had a strong affinity with music since early childhood. Settling in Melbourne in 1988, he commenced lessons in piano, cello and concert harp. Since then, he has studied with such well-respected teachers as Janis Cook and Julie Raines (both principals in their respective instruments at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) and Dr. Ian Holtham (Head of Piano and Instrumental Studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music).

More recently, Gabriel has moved away from performance, to focus his attention on composition. In 2003 he won acceptance to the MSO’s Young Composers’ Program and as a result, was given the opportunity to have one of his original compositions performed and recorded with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Gabriel went on to study Composition with Stuart Greenbaum at the Melbourne Conservatorium. He has also studied privately with Johanna Selleck. In addition to his studies in music, Gabriel has a degree in Microbiology and a graduate diploma of Classics both at the University of Melbourne.

Gabriel’s passion for music and composition has led him to establish himself as a freelance film composer and orchestrator. He has recently worked as an orchestrator with renowned Australian film composer Cezary Skubiszewski, who has also become his friend and mentor.
